The Department of Posts has published the official notification for Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-II, July 2026. 📌 Service Conditions Are Different From Regular Jobs
GDS are not regular government employees. They work under GDS Rules 2020. They serve mainly in rural areas, work 4–5 hours daily, and cannot continue after 65 years of age. A GDS must have another source of income for livelihood.
👩💼 Job Profile of Branch Postmaster
BPM manages daily postal operations, India Post Payments Bank services, marketing of products, and smooth running of the Branch Post Office. BPM must arrange accommodation for the post office and live in the same village where the branch is located.
👨💼 Job Profile of Assistant Branch Postmaster
ABPM helps BPM in postal work, delivers mail, handles IPPB transactions, and promotes services. ABPM must live within the delivery area of the concerned post office.
📦 Job Profile of Dak Sevak
Dak Sevak works in post offices, sorting offices, mail offices, or delivery centers. Duties include sale of stamps, mail handling, delivery of parcels, and assisting postmasters. Dak Sevak must live within the delivery area of the attached post office.
💰 Salary and Allowances
- BPM: ₹12,000 – ₹29,380
- ABPM/Dak Sevak: ₹10,000 – ₹24,470
They also get Dearness Allowance, Gratuity, and Service Discharge Benefit Scheme benefits.
🎓 Eligibility Criteria
- Age: 18 – 40 years (with relaxations for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD)
- Education: 10th pass with English and Mathematics
- Local Language: Must have studied local language up to 10th standard
- Other Skills: Knowledge of computers and cycling
📑 Reservation Rules
Reservation is available for SC, ST, OBC, PwBD, and EWS categories as per government rules. Candidates must produce valid certificates during document verification.
📊 Selection Process Is Based On Merit
Selection will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the 10th standard. A system‑generated merit list will be prepared. No written exam will be conducted.
📢 Communication Of Selection
Shortlisted candidates will be informed through SMS and email. They must attend document verification within 15 days with original certificates.
