The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu has released Advertisement No. IITJMU/R&C/RP-100382/A-36 dated 13 August 2026, inviting applications from Indian nationals for the post of Young Professional under the research project titled “Tribal Repository of Intangible and Built Indigenous Legacies: A Comprehensive Ethno-Cultural Documentation and Digital Repository of the Tribal Communities of Jammu & Kashmir”.

📌 Position Details

  • Post: Young Professional
  • Number of Positions: 3
  • Salary: ₹35,000 – ₹40,000 per month (commensurate with qualification & experience)
  • Duration: Initially 1 year (extendable based on performance and project requirements)
  • Age Limit: Maximum 30 years (Relaxation: 5 years for SC/ST/PwD/female applicants, 3 years for OBC with valid NCL certificate)

🎓 Eligibility Criteria

  • Essential: Master’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Cultural Studies, or allied fields of Social Sciences.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in field research, ethnographic documentation, or community-based fieldwork (preferably with tribal/indigenous communities).
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing field notes, reports, and transcripts.
    • Familiarity with qualitative research tools (interviews, focus group discussions, participatory documentation).
    • Willingness to travel and undertake extensive fieldwork in remote tribal areas of Jammu & Kashmir.

📑 Role & Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and conducting field visits for documentation of tribal heritage.
  • Support data collection through interviews, oral histories, participatory observation, and audio-visual documentation.
  • Transcribe, translate, and organize field data; prepare field notes and reports.
  • Assist in qualitative data review and analysis with the research team.
  • Prepare project reports, presentations, and documentation for submission to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  • Coordinate with community members, stakeholders, and project staff during fieldwork.
  • Support data entry, cataloguing, and uploading of materials to the project archive/portal.
  • Undertake other project-related research or administrative tasks as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
